In depth

Verdict

Searchlight finally got off the mark last time at Lingfield in maiden company after a frustrating sequence of placed efforts but does not always appear to be the most straightforward and faces a tough enough challenge conceding weight all round. He may be something of a reformed character having got his head in front but if SHILLA is straight enough for this reappearance then she becomes of real interest. Henry Candy has few peers in handling second season and upwards sprinters and his charge progressed nicely last term before running inexplicably badly on her final start. That, however, will have done her handicap mark no harm at all and a mark of 70 looks fine for the start of the new campaign. Walta and Raisin Hell have made a mark on the all-weather but Captain Whoosh, open to improvement this term, receives shortlist preference.
