In depth

Verdict

Stormburst showed plenty of promise on her Pontefract debut when behind Eloquent Rose and the Michael Dods-trained filly has to be respected on that evidence but the softer surface today may be of some concern and preference is for the newcomer Morinqua, who gets the vote ahead of Yerevan. The selection hails from the yard of Kevin Ryan that has been doing well with their youngsters this term and has pedigree that suggests that she will be at home on the ground. Market Day is an unraced son of Tobougg trained by Luca Cumani and could be of interest along with the Clive Cox-trained Drifting Gold, who only went down by a short-head on her debut in a Wolverhampton maiden. Moonlight Applause may do better on this surface now that she has had a run as most of the yard¿s horses improve with racing, while Whipchord represents the powerful Hannon stable that always has to be respected with their youngsters but needs to improve on the form of her debut effort. Mick Channon¿s Yerevan was not beaten far on her Newbury debut and has to be considered but Morinqua takes the eye on pedigree and should be suited by the underfoot conditions.
