In depth

Verdict

This is somewhat less competitive than the Coventry Stakes and the sixth there, Cee Bargara, can get his nose in front again, with Sir Gerry a threat and both all the other quartet decent sorts. Cee Bargara took a Pontefract maiden and a Kempton novices' contest before being pitched in at Royal Ascot, when as a 66/1 shot he finished just over three lengths behind the winner. He led for much of the race that day and we expect him to be ridden prominently again here, and he can take some catching. Sir Gerry was a debut winner at Thirsk on soft ground when he ran on strongly. Arguably he should prefer this better ground, so with the potential for more to come he is very much respected. Fat Boy ran well without ever being a serious threat in the July Stakes here recently, In Uniform looks to have a bit to find, while Mazzanti steps up in trip and the form of his Musselburgh win is not red hot, so that trio are opposed in favour of Cee Bargara.
