In depth

Verdict

NORMAN THE GREAT, Ovthenight and Watson's Bay catch the eye here, with Norman the Great, well backed to win an amateur riders' event at Newbury on his seasonal bow, taken to defy top weight and follow up. Ovthenight has not won for over a year, but he is racing with consistency, having been placed on his last two starts. He just appears to lack a turn of foot and that may prove crucial. Likewise, Watson's Bay has been running with enthusiasm of late, beaten in a three way photo earlier this week at Windsor. He has slipped down the handicap after a winless run and is well treated. Fit after a hurdling campaign, Norman the Great doubled his winning tally on the Flat, when getting up in the closing stages at Newbury, his first turf success. He is allotted top weight here, but is actually only 4lbs higher, and Norman the Great can prove just that to his supporters here.
