In depth

Verdict

There was plenty of confidence behind ROCKY GROUND on his debut at Yarmouth and he didn't disappoint. Runner-up A Certain Romance went one better at Doncaster on Thursday and Roger Varian's colt can enhance his reputation further here. Bircham hasn't done a lot wrong in a couple of starts at Ripon and warrants serious respect as he's a little less exposed than recent Yarmouth score Hasopop, who was also behind The Taj at Doncaster previously. Richard Hannon's charge was well beaten in the Coventry subsequently but should find this easier and makes more appeal than C&D Boomshackerlacker and Purcell, who is highly tried on debut.
