Verdict

Ramona Chase showed plenty of zip when coming back to form last time but preference in this handicap is for GORDON ROAD, while General Tufto is another short-listed. The Mick Quinlan-trained selection begins handicapping on a mark of 70, after three decent efforts in defeat in maidens. The four-year-old may have got in a shade lightly, and should be suited by this drop back in trip and the application of cheek pieces. He has to prove himself on the ground but has got the scope to show some improvement now and is given the nod. Ramona Chase was just held by Tinshu at Windsor on soft ground and his only success came on good to firm some time ago. Consistency is not his strong suit and he is taken on again today. General Tufto went close to winning at Beverley last time and remains on the same mark, so has to have claims, although the ground is plenty quick-enough for him. A 5lb drop in the weights won't do the consistent Basra any harm, but Kempton winner Penchesco looked in the grip of the assessor last time and Gordon Road is preferred.
