In depth

Verdict

A fascinating maiden in which John Gosden's Schapiro can get the better of some interesting newcomers. The son of Nureyev cost $110,000 as a yearling and is a very likely type on breeding. Plenty of others to consider, though, including Zaqrah, a half-sister to to this year's Nell Gwyn winner, Muqlib, Galvanise, who is a half-sister to a Ribblesdale winner, and the beautifully-bred Josephus, who displayed promise on his debut when fourth at Newbury. Add to that list David Loder's Andreas, who should be suited by middle-distances in time, the Richard Hannon pair, Just Turn - a half-brother to Umistim - and King Of Cashel, while, the Neville Callaghan pair, Buchanan - who has got bags of speed on the dam's side of his pedigree - and Hazyview, have plenty to like on breeding. With Andrew Balding and Paul Cole also represented, it's a tricky race to solve, but Schapiro, from the in-form Gosden stable, could well provide the answer.
