Verdict

Hopes remain high for NATIVE RULER who can get the better of Prince Siegfried and Montaff. Henry Cecil's charge was a springer in the Derby market ahead of his debut and was duly asked to contest the Dante following a facile maiden success. He came up short there and again in the King Edward VII Stakes but he will have learnt a good deal from those two outings and put the experience to good use. Prince Siegfried's best form came as a juvenile for Andrew Balding although he deserves plenty of credit for his third in a French Group 2 and has clearly trained on. He appeared to see out this trip well enough that day but a stronger gallop may provide a sterner test. Montaff fared a little better in a first time visor at Goodwood where the track may have caused him to run in snatches. It was a falsely run race but it's too early to give up on him. Almiqdaad is worth monitoring on his return to action as he was smart at two but it remains to be seen how effective he is over this trip. The distance is no problem for Midnight Cruiser whose run at Goodwood is best forgotten. He may lack the class of some of his rivals but should race on the pace in this field which should play to his advantage and see him run well at a price but Native Ruler is likely to bowl along as well and is preferred.
