Verdict

Hoh Mike is progressing nicely and can stake his claim to be considered amongst the big guns in the sprinting division; Sierra Vista is in the form of her life and, along with Fonthill Road and Irish raider Confusias, is expected to throw down a strong challenge. Sierra Vista has won her last three starts in good style and has to be rated as a serious contender. However, she faces a very stiff test under her Group 2 penalty and looks a shade vulnerable on this occasion. Fonthill Road can be hard to predict but, as he proved when winning the Ayr Gold Cup last year, he is a force to be reckoned with when he gets it right. Still, this season's efforts leave him with a little to find and he may be best played each-way for the time being. The unexposed Confusias is an interesting one and should not be underestimated. The son of Cape Cross was far from disgraced when finishing seventh in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and, with the drop in trip likely to suit; it would not be a bolt from the blue for him to go close. Francis Ennis has not been a very profitable trainer to follow with his raids on British prize-money, though. Misu Bond is also worth a mention, as his Listed race success from last year looks solid in the light of Jeremy's bold showing at the Royal Ascot meeting. The Bryan Smart-trained colt should cope with the ground but, as he lacks a recent outing, others may have an edge on him this time. With Hoh Mike making the most appeal on these terms. Michael Bell deliberately swerved Ascot in a bid to cherry pick a route to the Prix de L'Abbaye for this talented youngster. This is by no means an easy task, but the son of Intikab will need to take this in his stride if he going to be a serious player at Longchamp in October. The way he blitzed the field in the Scurry Stakes suggests he is ready for the test and the mount of Jamie Spencer is fancied to shake up his elders with a big run today.
