Verdict

This is not an easy race to solve but from a shortlist containing Jackie Kiely, Wahchi, Apache Point, The Wizard Mul and Commitment Lecture, we will side with Apache Point. The selection is just that simply because he is a course and distance winner who has shown that he still has enough ability to run a decent race from his current mark. Jackie Kiely is now just a pound above the mark from which he won last summer and, even though his best form is on good or quicker, he has to be on the shortlist too at this level. Wahchi looked promising last season before losing his way, although there were signs of a revival last time. As such, his chance cannot be discounted. The Wizard Mul is a recent convert to this sort of trip but is closely weighted Apache Point based on recent runs, so he too holds claims. Galley Law showed some Turf improvement last time, but his mark has been adjusted accordingly. Commitment Lecture was not beaten far under similar conditions from today's mark last time, so he too is entitled to respect, and Regent's Secret is often placed but has yet to win on Turf. Finally, Archirondel has place claims from his current mark but his best form is on good or quicker going. In conclusion, then, overall the vote goes to Apache Point.
