Verdict

Society Music won't find many easier opportunities than this, however the ground is a cause for concern and so it may be wise to side with ANCIENT CROSS ahead of Ingleby Princess who doesn't come without her pitfalls either. David Barron's mare has been holding her form fairly well all season and is now dropped in class. She is a contender but her best efforts have come on a quicker surface. As a result we will plump for Ancient Cross who looks well-treated at the weights. Mick Easterby's consistent gelding was well-fancied last time out at Beverley but didn't seem to be at his best. He is proven on a soft surface however and may be happier today than some of his rivals; a first win in 19 starts beckons. Straight Face is not the straightest of rides, Not Now Lewis drops in grade, whilst blinkers are swapped for cheek-pieces on the out-of-form Pianoforte. There was a bit more promise in Freda's Rose's last run at Ripon, however it is Ancient Cross who can break his maiden tag.
