In depth

Verdict

Distiller got up close home at Ludlow last week and the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained gelding has to be respected but may struggle to follow up under his 7lb penalty and preference is for Cortinas, who gets the vote ahead of Panjo Bere. The last mentioned, a winner at Fontwell on his British debut, came back to form after a couple of disappointing efforts when chasing home Glad Big at Lingfield earlier this month and he has to be respected but Gary Moore's gelding has harshly been raised 2lbs since then. Take The Breeze only won once from 32 starts when trained in France and, judged by his debut for Paul Nicholls, he remains one that is probably best watched. Nicky Henderson's Ship's Hill looks a shade high in the weights at present as does David Pipe's Go Solo, although he may have improved since last being seen in July. Charlie Mann's Cortinas looks to be going the right way though judged by his recent success at Huntingdon and the six-year-old is taken to defy the seemingly hefty 11lb rise for that success.
