Verdict

A typical nursery chock full of potential improvers. We'll take a chance with Belle Des Airs ahead of Versaki and Proclaim. Jockey bookings would suggest that Versaki is the Hannon stable's best chance of their three runners and this represents a drop in grade for him but it would be no surprise were he to prove vulnerable to some of his lightly weighted counterparts. Proclaim is another that appears to have his share of weight following his win at Chester; that was a marked improvement on his run at Catterick and it would be no surprise if he proved capable of a good deal better yet but the handicapper doesn't appear to have taken any chances. Tartan Turban is a half-brother to Paco Boy and got up late home to deny a stablemate at Windsor, he has been sent off at big prices on both starts which would suggest that he hasn't shown all that much at home and Richard Mullen has a modest record when riding for the yard. Dove Mews may well appreciate this softer ground and is of definite interest but preference is for Belle Des Airs. Ralph Beckett's filly was never competitive on debut but that was no bad performance as the subsequent Albany Stakes runner-up was only a couple of lengths in front of her in third. She benefited from the step up to six furlongs when making every yard at Leicester from a filly with a Lowther Stakes entry with the pair finishing 6 lengths clear of the field. The remainder may not have been up to much but it was a likeable effort and Belle Des Airs can take another step forwards by following up.
