In depth

Verdict

Lady Bear ran away with the Spring Mile at Doncaster in March but was pulled up on her latest start when the saddle slipped. That was unfortunate, but it appears that the ground has turned against her now and she may struggle. Calcutta is a very good horse on his day, but top weight on his reappearance may be asking a bit much for him today. Henry Cecil has already won a good handicap this week and the lightly-raced Wood Dalling would have to go on the shortlist. On his handicap debut at Ripon last year, he was asked to give a pound to Indian Creek, and not surprisingly found that task too difficult. Far from disgraced in second place, he has reportedly been working well in preparation for this and off a pound lower mark could prove to be a handicap snip. Thihn and Norton, who both ran well in the Lincoln, also come into the reckoning and preference would just go to the latter, who ran particularly well from a poor draw. However, Wood Dalling could be the one to lead the way home.
