Verdict

CRITICAL MOMENT has the best form of those to have raced and once again we will side with proven ability over potential; the most obvious newcomers to focus on are Colonel Carter, Beaumont's Party and Rasmy. A half-brother to Rattan, the selection was unfancied on his debut at Newmarket but turned in a smart performance to fill third spot behind Ameer. He is bred to get a mile and further in time but he looks ready to do the business over this trip at this stage of his career and he is expected to take a bit of beating. Lay Claim is an April foal who has more of a two-year-old pedigree than one tends to associate with the yard, Beaumont's Party's dam comes from a very good French family, whilst Rasmy is related to Hazy Dancer who was a winner on his debut so he needs a close check in the betting. Baoli, Take My Hand and Painswick are all open to improvement but have shaped as if they need more time, so of more interest may be another newcomer in Colonel Carter whose dam was a sprint winner at two and he is bred to be fairly precocious. The market will help guide to the chances of the newcomers from the stables not so renowned for providing debutant winners, and so it is Critical Moment that we return to for the winner.
