In depth

Verdict

Any number to be interested in so we'll put May Day Queen forwards as one that could go well at a price. La Coveta beat Dar Re Mi in her maiden last year and could be on a decent mark, Shabiba was sent off at just 6-1 in the Nell Gwyn, Falcolnry was last seen in action in the Cheveley Park Stakes whilst it would be surprising if Hip doesn't turn out to be a good deal better than a rating of eighty three. Barry Hills has provided two of the last three winners and relies on Centenerola who turned over the short-priced Amylee by 9 lengths at Doncaster last month but has to concede 5lbs today to Clive Cox's runner who may improve for the fitting of blinkers. A veritable minefield then but we'll be hoping that Richard Hughes can plot a path through aboard our selection. After finishing third on debut she was then asked to contest two Group 3s and didn't win her maiden until her fifth outing. She appeals as the type to get better with age and gave credence to that belief with an encouraging reappearance where she was doing all of her best work in the closing stages. Thus, today's extra furlong should suit whilst the second, Fathsta, gave the form a boost in the week so we're hopeful that May Day Queen can preside over proceedings.
