    Verdict

Unless the newcomer The Scourge is useful, this should rest between the once-raced pair Fiscal Focus, a promising fourth over an extra furlong at Navan earlier this month, and JOHANN STRAUSS. The latter was sent to Newmarket for his debut and caught the eye in no uncertain terms, including those of the stewards. He had far too much ground to make up and stayed on under hands and heels so it's a surprise to see him dropping in trip. He's still entered in next Saturday's Racing Post Trophy so must win here to justify his place. Sniper is a good yardstick and has run in two Group 1s though finished last in both.
