Verdict

Bat Masterson sets the standard for those with experience on his excellent run behind the useful One Cool Shabra at Gowran in December. He flopped when odds-on at Limerick a couple of weeks later and Noel Meade resorts to first-time blinkers for him. Wingtips, a promising stayer in France, made an eye-catching debut over timber at Leopardstown and is certain to have come on for the run while Gentleman Duke has shown a little promise in good-class maidens and can do better but there are several very interesting newcomers engaged including the former Luca Cumani-trained MIDNIGHT OIL, twice a winner in the UK and taken to make a winning start for new connections. Shamar and Shamkhal were both with Alain Royer-Dupre in France and the former had much the better form while Time To Work was a decent handicapper for Andrew Balding.
