In depth

Verdict

A competitive contest where it may be worth siding with CRUCHAIN to get his nose in front again, while Heathcliff is among a number of dangers. The latter has to shoulder top weight here and broke his duck last time in a beginners' chase over course and distance. He acts on any ground and has to be taken very seriously, though he has got plenty of racing weight. Shouldhavehadthat has put in three poor runs since winning at Newbury some 15 months ago, and he is now back to just 3lbs above that winning mark, though we would like to see some market confidence before wagering. Never So Blue looks high enough in the weights, while Rakalackey would prefer drier ground, and the same applies to Kilcrea Asla, who is nonetheless back on the same mark as his last win, which came here. Quattrocento is another apparently in the grip of the assessor, who has given Pacha D'Oudairies a chance, though he is very difficult to win with. Mont Present went well here from 3lbs lower last time but he is not guaranteed to get home and we will side with Cruchain. Two of this gelding's three career wins have been when today's pilot, Tony McCoy has been on board. Cut in the ground suits him, as does a test of stamina, while a drop in the weights gives him a chink of light that we hope he can exploit today.
