In depth

Verdict

A mark of 84 is usually good enough to land a maiden and VANITY RULES looks the one to beat. She started favourite but came up short in Listed company at Newmarket on her seasonal return and John Gosden's filly can take advantage of today's drop in class. Society Pearl should be in the firing-line after a pipe-opener at Salisbury and makes more appeal than Paris Rose and Audacia while Bantam should give a good account if taking to the soft ground. Maypole Lass and Phaenomena hail form powerful yards and the latter's entry in the Ribblesdale next month suggests the 700,000gns purchase is worth a second glance.
