In depth

Verdict

Not much to go in the way of previous experience. So only a tentative vote goes to Perfect Tone, who at least has a race behind her this season and can put the experience to good use tonight. Geometric and Rock Chic are others with experience to monitor in the betting, while First Show is an interesting newcomer that would not have to be anything out of the ordinary to figure in this company. James Fanshawe also introduces an interesting type to note, in the shape of Gandalf, who is a half-brother to seven furlong winner Polar Magic. Quite whether this trip will suit him remains to be seen. But he could be one to bear in mind for future reference. Rock Chic showed little over six furlongs in her solitary start as a juvenile. However, she will be much better suited to this trip on pedigree and she is one to seriously consider. Geometric needs to improve on what he has shown so far. Still, he is also race-fit and could improve for the extra distance tonight. However, Perfect Tone has a more solid profile at this stage and, we take the hint that Jamie Spencer staying for the last can reap a fair reward in the finale.
