Southern State looks yet another well-bred contender for an ordinary winter maiden for Mark Johnston and showed considerable promise on debut when running the more experienced Alfred Hutchinson to less than a length despite running green. His handler is sure to find an opening for him and it may be here but let's take him on with BOW RIVER ARCH. The latter seems sure to set out to make all, having adopted similar tactics the last twice. He was just reeled in by First Rock at Southwell and recently finished fourth in a staying handicap won by Chabada at Wolverhampton over 1m6f. He'll be well suited by the two-furlong drop in trip here and represents the value option. Oneiric and Broughton Sands could also make their presence felt whilst Kangaroo Court, a decent hurdler and chaser, is presumably being sent here to blow away the cobwebs by Emma Lavelle in an interesting move all the same.
