Verdict

MAKHFAR was well beaten at odds-on at Nottingham last August after a highly promising Ascot debut and his subsequent absence indicates a problem occurred at the Midlands venue. He's obviously useful and couldn't be in better hands but after 300 days off he could just finds things tough against AMBER ISLE. The Juddmonte filly shaped well on her Newbury debut last summer and went just as pleasingly after eleven months off when runner-up at Kempton last month. Headgear is now the order of the day and the daughter of First Defence can go one better and make her fitness advantage tell. Lady Sparkler looks a possible improver for Roger Varian.
