Verdict

Very few of these make real appeal with MOSSMANN GEORGE narrowly preferred to Christophers Quest and Piper's Song. At eight-years-old our idea of the winner is fully exposed, but he won a course and distance handicap off 48 last season and is now rated 3lbs lower. Not only that, he ran with credit on his seasonal return last time and should improve for the outing, whilst this race is arguably less competitive, so he looks to have solid claims in an open contest. Christopers Quest is now 13lbs lower than when placed on his handicap debut back in 2008, but he had just two starts last year and offered very little. However, connections tried him in a tongue-tie last time on his return at Nottingham and it seemed to help as he ran with credit in fifth, so with this further step up in trip likely to suit he's got place claims at least. Piper's Song is hard to win with but he was well backed last time and a similar scenario may transpire here as he's undeniably well handicapped off 50. That said he could only manage mid-division at Kempton and will need to improve to land this. Prickles ran in an amateur riders' contest at Wolverhampton last time and was perhaps flattered to finish third having had run of the race, but at least she's in good heart and that could be enough to take this weaker affair, particularly if she once again gets to the front early. Straight Laced tries a visor and her trainer has his horses going well so this filly is a potential improver and Dovedon Angel ran well enough last time to merit attention despite remaining a maiden; however Mossmann George looks to have solid prospects of taking home top honours and is nominated to do just that.
