Verdict

Circumvent just did enough when making a winning debut in a maiden on the Fibresand at Southwell last month and Paul Cole's gelding has to be respected on his first attempt on the Polytrack but he faces no easy task giving weight away all round and preference is for FOOSTEPSOFSPRING, who gets the nod over Professor John. Michael Bell's colt has run well in all four starts and ran better on fast ground when a close third at Chester last time than he had done on his nursery debut at Newmarket previously. Brian Meehan's Champagne Style belied market odds when a creditable second behind Al Ghazal in a Sandown maiden last month and has to be respected. Peter Chapple-Hyam's Zaahy was well held on his debut at Newmarket and of more interest may be Bath winner Dark Eyes, who was not disgraced when a close third in a similar contest to this at Haydock last time. The vote then goes to Richard Hannon's Footstepsofspring, who has been highly tried but has run some decent races in defeat since winning at Windsor in June, and he looks worth backing to resume winning ways here.
