In depth

Verdict

FURNER'S GREEN is entered in every early-season major event and there'll be some head scratching if he's beaten. A debut winner at Tipperary, he ran very well behind Power in the National Stakes at the Curragh and though disappointing on the same track in the Beresford Stakes the heavy ground was probably responsible. Stablemate Vault also made a winning start and landed a nursery at Galway but he was a long way behind the selection in the National Stakes. Honourable Emperor has a fitness advantage but takes on much better class rivals while Alkazim couldn't find a victory though his short-head second behind Wrote at Cork could hardly have been better advertised by the subsequent exploits of the winner. The remainder will need to improve but all are capable of doing so after a winter's rest.
