      Verdict

      Backers of PORT ALFRED have had to endure two second places in as many starts, and while the six-figure sum that he realised at auction looks expensive, it will be a major surprise if he isn't good enough to account for tonight's opposition. Hand Grenade was bought for just 800gns and comes into the race with a similar track profile. Eve Johnston-Houghton's string are in good form and her runner has to be respected. Roger Charlton has a 50% strike rate with his runners at Leicester this year so Random Success is closely watched in the market on debut. Golden Secret would have to reverse Windsor form with our selection, and the remainder make very little appeal.
