    Verdict

Dickensian, Tell and Psychic Star are the leading lights in this trappy race to open the card and the vote is given to Dickensian. The selection made a pleasing debut at Chepstow when he won in good style and then he ran with great credit at Beverely last time when second behind Baan. That was over 7-and-a-half furlongs when he had the worst of the draw, and the return to 7 furlongs is in his favour here. He looks a nice prospect and with more improvement likely he should take plenty of beating. Tell rates the main danger as he made a pleasing debut at Newmarket when beating Scandal Keeper over 6f. He is upped in trip here and with this slightly faster surface also in his favour he is entitled to go close. Psychic Star has shown enough in her three runs to date to suggest that she could get competitive and she would have been closer to the winner Nannina at Goodwood had she not been hampered at a crucial stage. Porters showed promise on his first two runs but he seems to have regressed since and for the winner we are happy to return to Dickensian.
