Alasoun can make a winning debut at the expense of Barodine, Don Jose and Nosferatu to name but three. The market should be closely noted here, and hopefully it will speak in favour of Alasoun who is out of one of the Aga Khan's grand mares Alasana, and is a half-brother to Alasha. This Vodafone Derby entry runs here instead of at Newmarket on Friday so is obviously ready to do himself justice today. It promises to be no cake walk though, as Henry Cecil's Barodine has the edge in experience, having finished fourth over seven furlongs here on his debut in August. The extra furlong will be in his favour and he should be involved in the finish. John Gosden' s juveniles have been in terrific form in the main, so Don Jose should be kept in mind as well. Like the selection, he too runs here in preference to headquarters at the weekend and is also entered for the Derby next year. Another yard in form is that of Amanda Perrett and so Nosferatu, yet another Epsom hopeful who is stoutly-bred, can also figure, but we are happy to side with Alasoun who may well develop into a leading contender for next year's big middle-distance events.
