Verdict

MAXIM GORKY could lead home Tower in a race set to be dominated by the well-bred newcomers. Sir Michael Stoute's charge should be at home in the likely conditions as a son of Montjeu, whose progeny are often capable of making winning debuts. An expensive purchase, he's bred to be a smart performer and it'll be interesting to see what the market makes of his chance; our anticipation is that he'll be a well backed favourite and it's entirely possible we'll witness a taking performance from a horse whose paper credentials are exemplary. Tower is another nicely bred animal and his yard has started the season well, with a couple of debut winners suggesting this one will know his job at the first time of asking. There are mixed messages in his pedigree as to whether he'll truly enjoy this ground though whilst the fact he wears blinkers already is enough to put us off. Moose Moran ran reasonably on debut when the market suggested he'd need the run, so with Henry Cecil's record here a good one he could leave that well behind. He could prove better than 72-rated Tropical Blue who has now missed 16 opportunities. He does act on the ground but surely there'll be one or two that prove too strong; we think Maxim Gorky is the one.
