In depth

Verdict

QUAESTOR proved a shade disappointing as a juvenile but sets the standard and may make immediate amends now aged three, in the process proving too strong for Dominium and Lago Indiano. Our selection raced exclusively at this trip as a two-year-old, failing by a nose on his third start at Lingfield before showing up for a long way in a valuable sales race in Ireland, one won by a 2000 Guineas prospect. That form in defeat sets the standard, although it must be noted he did on occasion fail to see out the six furlongs. However, he should stay this far comfortably on breeding and the hope is he'll have strengthened up over the winter months. The market will help shed light on this race particularly in regard to our selection and the likely danger Lago Indiano. Amanda Perrett's charge ran well on both starts in 2009, the last of which coming here in a race that has thrown up a winner since. He may need a seventh furlong to be seen to his best though, so we're narrowly opposing him this time with an eye on the future. Dominium completes the shortlist for Jeremy Gask having displayed real promise on his debut in January. The colt travelled nicely that day before showing signs of inexperience, but should he draw some improvement he'd be a live danger over a furlong further. Caramelita has had plenty of chances so whilst she's consistent it's unlikely she'll come good on her tenth start, whilst Master Mylo has a bit to find on the figures and an absence to overcome. Of the newcomers, Arctic Minx looks a more likely type than Titch but both need a market check, however without that guide we'll side with Tom Dascombe's Quaestor.
