Verdict

A real hotchpotch of a handicap and STRIDING EDGE can overcome a poor draw to see off likely market protagonists, Mutawarath and Laudatory. Willie Muir's gelding has had plenty of racing this term but he has maintained a high level of form here at Kempton. He was perhaps unfortunate to run up against such a well regarded type as The Scorching Wind last time out and can gain compensation tonight. William Haggas had a few winners at the weekend so don't rule out Mutawarath. A winner of a maiden at York, he may have found the soft going at Ayr though has few miles on the clock. Laudatory should not lack for experience on this surface though the handicap has had his chance to check the sums. Militarist does not appear to be much of a finisher. He is in first time blinkers today. Formula won well at Wolverhampton though it is impossible to get excited about what he actually beat on that day. Park Lane can front run and did so to hack up in a fairly moderate Pontefract maiden. Charlotte Point has a likeable attitude though she has struggled off similar marks in the past and will now be prey to anything unexposed. Dukes Art is consistent enough though we are unconvinced as to whether the step back up to a mile is truly in his interest. Striding Edge is not well berthed but we are prepared to take the kickback of a better price as a consequence.
