Verdict

Cape Hawk has saved his best for the track and will be expected to go very, very close from the best of the draw. McNairobi, Nice To Know and Pendulum Star are three others that may provide a little value in a hotly contested contest. Highlights of the selection's career at this venue include a 7 length second to Lucarno, a defeat of star stablemate Malt Or Mash in a handicap and an unlucky in running fourth in the final of the mile handicap series in September. He's expected to improve throughout this season but should be ready to do himself justice at the first time of asking and heads our short-list. Some seasoned performers have decent claims here but three less exposed sorts are worthy of inspection. McNairobi heads them having confirmed her wellbeing with a decent effort on her return; she ran better than the finishing position suggests as she endured a troubled passage. She's on a handy mark and has won four of her eight starts on the all-weather. Nice To Know needs to improve to win in this company but caught the eye on more than one occasion last year, notably when beating Plucky at Goodwood. There should be more to come from her this term and from Pendulum Star who has the scope to rate a good deal better than her current mark of 79. Fascinating stuff but we fully expect Cape Hawk to run a big race.
