        In depth

        Verdict

CAVALRY GUARD is given a another chance while running well to land his second win in three runs while improved efforts for his new yard give Mocha Java claims with Rosie Cross also in calculations after producing her best for some time over course and distance two starts ago. The pick followed up a distance win at Lingfield in an apprentice race to narrowly miss out off the same mark at the same track, under the same rider, last time out. It is true that the four pound rise in his mark will make things a tougher in than in the last couple of starts but he doesn't have to beat much and is still open to some improvement. Mocha Java has rediscovered how to run a race since switching to a new yard and taking a year off. Those recent improvements have come off very lowly marks and while he was capable on the turf off a much higher rating the extra this time come prevent a long awaited success. Rosie Cross has slipped to a career low rating and smacks of a horse going in the wrong direction but in this poor event would have a claim while the same can be said for Franksalot who has shown very little over this trip so by process of elimination we go with Cavalry Guard.
