In depth

Verdict

Cool Carroll is relatively unexposed after just three starts and has to be respected on his debut in a handicap but is clearly one of the lesser light sin Howard Johnson's powerful yard and a chance is taken with College City, who is preferred to Stormy Beech. The last mentioned has been given a chance by the handicapper and would not mind any further rain. Top weight Earl Sigurd was well held off today's mark on his chase debut last time and is probably best watched at present, while Midlem Melody has disappointed in two start since winning at Carlisle last month. Ameras is closely matched with Earl Sigurd on running here last time and is another to consider along with Chris Thornton's course and distance winner Cusp. The vote though goes to Richard Guest's College City, who has slipped to an attractive mark now and can provide his in-form handler with another winner.
