Verdict

History shows that it is not easy to back up a bumper win but the manner of the success recorded by VIVONA HILL at Wetherby in the spring suggests that he can defy logic and a penalty to go in again here, with debutant Saturn Island taken to emerge as a danger. Alan Swinbank's record with bumper runners is well documented and sure enough he had Vivona Hill fit enough to do himself justice on debut, so there is no reason why he can't repeat the feat six months later. He destroyed that field at Wetherby and the talk afterwards was of aiming him at some of the champion bumper races this term so he'd have to be good enough to go in again here if that is the case. Saturn Island represents the Wylies and makes his debut here. Being by Turtle Island he is likely to enjoy the cut underfoot and in time he will get further than this, so there is reason to believe that he can go well on this stiff track today. Lie Forritt has already proved that following up a bumper win is not easy but he has at least won one and acts with cut so he shouldn't be too far away. Ernst Bolfeld and Denel's Brig both represent yards that do well in this sphere and money for either would be interesting, but we'll take Vivona Hill to improve on the promise of his impressive debut win.
