In depth

Verdict

In an interesting contest, Glasker Mill gets the call ahead of Baron Romeo and Pontiff. Glasker Mill confirmed earlier promise by winning at Fontwell last time and, despite having to concede weight to the field, still looks to be a leading player today, the value of his form looking smart. Much as the winner has been beaten since, Baron Romeo gets a very good mention based on his second to Hot 'N' Holy last time, while Champion's Day, who acts on soft, is Group-placed from the Flat and is entitled to improve on his debut run over hurdles. Cooldine Lad cost 50,000 guineas but will have to improve on his Wetherby debut run in order to feature, while Liathroidisneachta has shown ability but seems to lack a big gear change. Plumpton bumper winner, Pontiff, is from a very good family on his dam's side - which includes Hand Inn Hand, Morley Street and Granville Again - so has to be considered, but the others are hard to fancy. All of which returns us to the selection, which is Glasker Mill.
