Verdict

Pistol had been going the right way before throwing in a woeful effort on his handicap debut at Newmarket. First-time headgear is applied today but the doubts remain and ROCKTHERUNWAY looks a safer choice. He simply wasn't good enough in the King George V handicap at Royal Ascot last time but this is more his grade and Michael Dods' charge should relish the longer trip having won over 1m4f at Musselburgh last month. Course winner Fleeting Image also floundered in better company at this track on her latest start but isn't out of this while Redcar winner Flashman is preferred to Aliante and Juno The Muffinman.
