We'll follow the old adage of stay on the right side of top weights in nurseries and nominate Waffle to bounce back from his disappointing effort in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood last week where he faded quite tamely when asked for his effort. His maiden victory was achieved in April and it could be that he was in need of the outing. Drying ground conditions would suit Evelyn May who shapes as a filly that is best suited by the minimum trip. She had a simple task last time at Great Leighs but the form of her Newbury maiden is smart and in receipt of 9lb from the favourite, she looks the biggest danger. The experienced Mazzola drops back to five furlongs having landed a six furlong Hamilton nursery on his last start. Red Rossini will be suited by the fast five furlongs here and while the third from his Windsor maiden has since scored, the second was well beaten on his first start in a nursery and the suspicion remains that it was an ordinary maiden. Paul Hanagan's decision to select Mister Laurel over Deadly Encounter would suggest the former is the stables first string. He was a big drifter last time but wasn't beaten all that far in the end when conceding weight all round and would have place claims. Waffle looked a juvenile of some promise on debut and can bounce back to winning ways.
