SCHMOOZE was the recipient of an excellent last-to-first ride by Lee Topliss when scoring here last time and receives no penalty for that apprentice contest. The gelding provided Linda Perratt with a much-needed first success of the campaign and, clearly in good heart, is taken to follow up that cosy success. A Southside Boy is an obvious threat having beaten the selection by two lengths when the pair last clashed. There's little between them on the revised ratings but the Goldie inmate does have a below-par effort last time to put behind him. Jan Smuts has been performing well over the last couple of months, including a success for today's pilot. He may need to come down a pound or two but knows how to win and earns a place on the short-list.
