In depth

Verdict

Dream Esteem gets the nod over Shady Gloom, while Bocciani is one to bear in mind for future handicaps. The last named has shown modest form to date but is in the right hands to be nurtured along to find a race before too long. He will be interesting when going handicapping after this. Shady Gloom has done little wrong in three starts so far and is entitled to respect. It is interesting that his connections are staying maiden company for the time being and he rates as a big threat to the selection. However, Dream Esteem did well to get close to a potentially smart type at Newcastle earlier in the month and, as that piece of form is arguably the most reliable evidence on show, Dream Esteem just gets the vote on this occasion.
