Verdict

The feature race of the evening can go to JEDI who may not need the full power of the force to beat impressive Epsom scorer Fortuni, with Just Lille and Record Breaker others to consider. Sir Michael Stoute's gelding won tidily at Chester last time off a mark of 83 and the 6lb rise afforded him might not stop a repeat victory. This son of Pivotal would appreciate a drop of rain but he was a good third on quick ground last term so appears versatile and his handler has an excellent record of improving horses from this family, with half-brothers Warringah and Hi Calypso having rated a good deal higher than this; we're hopeful Jedi can continue the family tradition. Fortuni won impressively on Derby day at Epsom but there has to be a concern about this coming a tad quickly. That said, no trainer is more adept at racking up quick-fire sequences than Sir Mark Prescott and a 6lb penalty shouldn't be enough to stop this son of Montjeu going very close indeed. However, he has given an easy time out in front at Epsom and similarly positive tactics are harder to employ here, so that combined with the quick reappearance is enough for us to narrowly oppose him. Just Lille is another turned out quickly under a penalty following a win on Saturday so carries almost identical concerns; his was also a front-running success so there should be plenty of pace on here and this is a much tougher race. Mark Johnston won this last year so with Record Breaker so both he and Act Of Kalanisi merit respect. The former is down to a handy mark and has a recent second in Listed company to call upon and therefore makes more appeal than Act Of Kalanisi, who showed little on his comeback and may need a return to further. Lady Of Eclair carries a penalty of her own having scored tidily here last time; she's progressing well and although this is the acid test a bold show wouldn't surprise with the pace in the race negating a slight drop in trip. Veloso has done well since returning from a lengthy absence but he's not yet won on turf in the UK and we're inclined to suggest he'll fail to do so here, with ready preference for Jedi.
