Verdict

Godolphin's CONTRETEMPS is likely to be well supported here, and is our selection ahead of Akbabend and Orbitor. Only one newcomer here, and that's Theola, so at least we've some form to go on. Contretemps, a 170,000 Guineas purchase has a fancy Newmarket entry in the spring, and has shown promise in his two runs to date, but when leading at Goodwood reportedly couldn't cope with the soft ground. Akbabend, Mark Johnston's runner also looks the improving sort, but struggled up the Newmarket hill last time out when leading. Michael Bell sends out Orbitor, and has been pulled out of a race at Nottingham to compete here. As with any maiden, a market check is advised, but we'll be siding with Contretemps.
