slowly into stride, mid-division, never dangerous

      In depth

      Verdict

DUSK is taken to win the nightcap with Circadian Rhythm and Director's Chair just two of a raft of dangers. Backing maidens of ten is hardly the way to be making money as a punter but the presence of Eddie Ahern, who has a fine record when riding for John Dunlop, certainly catches the eye. The gelding met all sorts of trouble when tried at Kempton last time out and on the assumption that such bad luck cannot occur twice, we'll try him again at the likely odds. Circadian Rhythm is a dangerous customer off a light weight. She can be forgiven a recent near-miss as it probably obtained a little close to her previous win but she would not be the first horse to progress rapidly for handicapping with SC Williams. Director's Chair is fresh from landing a handicap at Yarmouth. An unfashionable trainer means that he'll probably be sent off at bigger odds than the form entitles. Saleima has to reverse form with our selection in order to win this. Rahere is on handicap debut and is Mark Johnston's only runner at the meeting. He arguably pulled a bit hard for his own good at Nottingham but is not without ability. Emshabb has been soundly beaten off similar marks in handicaps previously. Havanavich won a weak handicap in decent style on Saturday night at Kempton. His apprentice attempts to offset the rise in the weights. Azure Mist let down favourite backers at Kempton earlier in the month and now has it to prove. Far from the easiest of getting out stakes and Dusk is our idea of the winner.
