Verdict

Sea Lord won stylishly on Friday and would be of interest if turned out quickly but we'll side with a fresher horse in CRITICAL MOMENT; Desert Myth and Treadwell, for entirely different reasons, rate best of the rest. Our selection was hampered in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot and in the circumstances did well to take fifth, beaten less than three lengths behind Afsare. The form of that race has worked out thanks to the subsequent success of Wigmore Hall, albeit in handicap company, and this doesn't appear a particularly strong renewal. That said if Mark Johnston deems Sea Lord well enough to turn out again he'd be hard to beat, especially as his style of racing lends itself to small fields like this one. With his participation in considerable doubt though, Desert Myth is next on our list. Sir Michael Stoute's horse made a wining debut in the spring and looked one to follow but he struggled in the Lingfield Derby Trial and again looked like he had something to learn when touched off by a likeable type at Leicester. He takes a significant drop in trip too, so with the yard out of form the percentage call is to oppose this interesting contender; he may well prove one for the future. Treadwell takes a hike in grade after a fine Buckingham Palace Stakes victory but he deserves a chance at this level and his handicap form stacks up. Conditions are ideal form Jamie Osborne's charge although he'd not want this to get tactical. Field Of Dream has claims if his rating is to be believed and his Red Jazz form reads well but his sole try at this trip resulted in disappointment and he needs to settle better, while Long Lashes showed abundant promise as a juvenile and could go well fresh so can't be discounted. Not the strongest Listed race of the meeting but an interesting one nonetheless; preference is for Critical Moment.
