In depth

Verdict

Dandy Nicholls has his usual surfeit of entries here and MANDURAH can take advantage of a plumb nearside draw to take it, while Rocker, Highland Harvest and Jimmy Ryan are all very interesting. Mandurah was nowhere to be seen at Ascot on Sunday as far as being genuinely competitive was concerned, but there is no getting away from the fact that he had won unchallenged at that track the time before. The success suggests that he is better than at Ascot and we think he can come back and prove it here. Rocker and Highland Harvest are both drawn low, last-time winners and carry light enough weights in the race. Rocker shoulders a 6lb penalty for success over the trip at Epsom and acts on most ground so can go well, while Highland Harvest looks likely to struggle for speed now dropped back this far despite winning over 6f at Brighton. Feelin Foxy has been going well in minor handicaps and had a form boost by Select Committee's Beverley win on Tuesday but has a high draw to overcome, while Le Toreador is another going well and chases a hat-trick for the second time in his career, so with a low draw a plus he is not ruled out. Jimmy Ryan is a very interesting participant. He has clearly had all sorts of problems and has his first run since winning a Listed race over course and distance over four years ago. A sound surface has always suited and Frankie Dettori is again booked for the mount, and what a comeback win this would be. Invincible Lad and Luscivious are given respect, while stranger things have happened than apparent Nicholls second string Indian Trail taking a race like this, but preference is for stable companion Mandurah.
