Verdict

Landing the day's feature race should prove to be plain sailing for HENRYTHENAVIGATOR although Raven's Pass may well have other ideas and Winker Watson adds a bit more colour to the picture. Henry has landed three Group 1s already this season, accounting for the Derby winner New Approach in 2000 Guineas on both sides of the Irish Sea before adding the St James's Palace Stakes to his haul with a comfortable defeat of Raven's Pass. The three-quarters-of-a-length winning margin may have been narrow but the horse that O'Brien has described as being the best miler he has ever trained always looked to be in charge and he should take all the beating. Raven's Pass has earned the right to have another crack at him and he should finish in the money again as long as his preferred fast ground prevails on the Downs. As good as they are, it's difficult to envisage Major Cadeaux, Tariq or Dream Eater landing this race but Winker Watson is a different matter entirely. Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt has had an abbreviated campaign following some niggly setbacks and he will need to step up significantly on the form of his reappearance but his trainer has made no secret of the regard in which he's held and he's a welcome new ingredient to the mix. He has it all to prove though whereas Henrythenavigator's wardrobe is already bursting with T-shirts and the Kingmambo colt can add the Sussex Stakes to his collection.
