Verdict

An intriguing renewal of the feature and if Rip Van Winkle can return to last season's form he should retain his crown but he'll have to come on bundles for his return run at Ascot so the vote goes to the lending miler of his generation CANFORD CLIFFS while Premio Loco should feature prominently. Any staying doubts after a place in the Guineas have been firmly put to bed by the selection who has since made smooth progress to land the Irish Guineas and the St James Place Stakes. There looks as though there should be more to come so although this will be his first go against older horses he should add to his burgeoning CV. Rip Van Winkle was the star horse at this trip last season and the jewel in his crown was taking this race last year. Ryan Moore is a more than decent replacement for the suspended Johnny Murtagh in the saddle but Aiden O'Brien's charge was badly in need of his first run of the season and now has to come on a whole lot for that. Premio Loco has a bit of class to prove but has won a Group Three and Two in his last couple of starts. Chris Wall has his horses running well and another improve effort will have him close. Dream Eater came in for some support early in the week so should be considered but in a great renewal Canford Cliffs looks the pick.
