Verdict

One of the best races of it's type so far this season can go to Skywards, whose third in the Norfolk Stakes already gives him the edge over Dance Night and Spree, but also created the impression that there is plenty more to come from the Machiavellian colt. Siena Gold, who showed her worth when winning the valuable Weatherbys Super Sprint, should confirm the form with Tournedos, and will be hard to keep out of the frame if she is in the same mood today. Whereas the last mentioned ran a little flat last time and has a little to prove despite his effort in finishing second in the Windsor Castle Stakes on his penultimate start. Any ease in the ground would also count against him and he may have to settle for a bit-part once more. Beckermet is another that has to be a serious consideration as he would surely be available at very cramped odds if he came from one of the more fashionable yards. The Roger Fisher-trained gelding has done very little wrong since his introduction and fully deserves to take his chance in the line up. The son of Second Empire has not finished improving yet and it will be no surprise to see him head for a crack at the Gimcrack if all goes well here. Nevertheless, they may all meet their match in Skywards, whose Newmarket win was emphatically boosted earlier in the week. His subsequent effort at Royal Ascot reads very well in the context of this race and, despite not being the most original selection of the day, Skywards is the one they all have to beat in this Group 3 contest.
