Verdict

Newmarket winner Naahy is bound to be popular with backers for the day's showcase handicap but preference is for Jamie Osborne's Tidy, with another of those towards the bottom of the handicap, Desert Opal, looking a big danger. The selection got up close home to win at Haydock over six furlongs earlier in the month on his reappearance and, with improvement to come for the run and the step up in trip expected to suit, he is taken to overcome a rise in the weights. John Gosden's Desert Opal is lightly raced after just three starts and entitled to improve on previous form but has been done few favours by the handicapper. Another at the bottom end of the weights, Fellow Ship made a winning debut for Gerard Butler at Folkestone but failed to reproduce the form at Chester last time. He may not have handled the turns on the Roodee though and may fair better on this track. Mark Johnston has a fine record at Goodwood so it would be no surprise to see either The Bonus King or Royal Beacon going close. Andrew Balding also saddles two runners, with Arctic Desert looking the pick of his pair ahead of Hoh Investor.
